Artist Statement
I support the conservation, protection, and celebration of the Earth. My sculptures are an exploration and expression of femininity, strength, a nurturing spirit, and hope. Inspirations come as I hike in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and observe remarkable beauty. As I walk, I pick up Chinquapin, Sassafras, small Chestnut and other leaves of the remaining tellurian trees. I am amazed at the variety, adaptations, and morphology of these leaves. From the leaves of the genera of trees I admire, I form a basic idea of what I am going to sculpt but work intuitively with only a vague concept. Invariably, the clay dictates my sculptural performance, inspiring my creativity as the form develops. The creative process and admiration of the natural world are equal players in my artistic expression.
